I put this code

between the header tags of my header.php page as instructed.

and I lost all my google rankings for every keyword

I then took it out and my rankings returned a day later.

I repeated this and it happened again

What is wrong with this code or what am I doing wrong?

I use a plugin that handles that for me now. I would also recommend people to remove the /category/ from the loop as it is annoying as hell in pretty permalinks to have a useless entry not helping your SEO.
